INOCULANT (INOCULUM)
Nucleating agent, also referred as Inoculant, is a kind of additive which can refine grain and improve the mechanical properties and processing properties. It can improve the shape and dlistribution of graphite, increase the number of eutectic nucleus, slow down the recession of nodulizing, eliminate and prevent the casting chilling tendency and reduce section sensitivity. Adding the nucleating agent into the spheroidized molten iron will increase the number of graphite spheres, eliminate cementite and enhance plasticity and toughness.
It is mainly applied in deoxidizer, desulfurization agent, reducing agent, addition agent, alloy agent, temperature- -increasing agent for steel melting and foundry, as well as the nucleating agent, inoculating agent and vermiculating agent for cast iron or magnesium treatment of nodular cast iron. It is applicable for inoculation in all castings.
